Have you ever wondered what all those geeky words mean? Here are a few definitions of some of the more common terms related to blogs and blogging. Now you know what they mean!
Anchor Text- taking one of your main keywords and converting it into a hyperlink that goes to a page on your website
Blogger-one who writes a blog
Blogging-writing entries or posts in a blog
Blogosphere-a global community of blogs and bloggers
Blogorrhea-a whole lot of blogging about nothing
blogroll-a list of the bloggers favorite site displayed in a sidebar widget
Business Blog-a blog about a specific business or business in general
Comments- responses by readers to a post. Comments are what separate a blog from a “normal” website.
Feed-a summary of the entries in a blog that is displayed in an aggregator or newsreader. A reader can subscribe to a feed and read when updates are posted.
Index Page-the home page of a blog or any website.
Link Love-a link from one blog to another. Great for SEO.
Personal Blog-A blog that is similar in nature to a diary or journal or used to keep in touch with family and friends.
Podcast-a recorded audio program, in MP3 format and placed in a blog.
RSS-Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary. Simply put a feed or a newsreader.
Sidebar-display content such as blogrolls, calendars, archives and other information. They can be place on the right side, left side or both.
Template-a set of design elements that are consistent through out the blog. Elements include colors, fonts or position of sidebars.
Theme-Similar to a template
Weblog-the formal name of a blog. weblog– we blog– blog
