Securing Your Blog Setup
ByAnd they like nothing better than hacking your site for whatever reason seems to make sense in their twisted brains. Sometimes they redirect your site to one of theirs or they do it just because they can.
If your site is essential to your business or is an e-commerce getting hacked can cost you money and harm your reputation.
One of the easiest ways you can start to secure your site is to NEVER use the name “admin” for your username. It is the default name used when setting up your site. Hackers know this so they are half way there when trying to get into your site.
ALWAYS change it to something unique. Add a number of two and maybe a capital letter also. Mix it up so it becomes difficult to guess. Just make sure you remember it!
Next is your password. ALWAYS use a combination of uppercase & lowercase letters, numbers and characters. An example could be:
aP=kj4U%93[bZ* Try and guess that one! Note that it is 14 digits long, eight would be the minimum I would recommend.
There is a great free password keeper called LastPass that I use and recommend. It will even create passwords for you and remember them too!
And remember that this same advice applies to every site that requires you to have a username and password. Don’t use the same usename and password on more than one site either!
So these are two easy steps to securing your WP site that you can do in the initial blog setup.
